Summer is just around the corner, and that can mean only one thing – sandal season is almost upon us. This means your poor neglected winter feet are ready for a summer pamper. Fear not, we’ve got four tips that will have your feet baby soft and ready to party.
This is number one on the list for a very good reason. We have all experienced thick, dry, or flaky skin on the bottom of our feet but unsurprisingly this doesn’t have to be there. The build-up of dead skin cells are waiting to be stripped away to reveal the beautiful soft feet that lie beneath.
While a simple mix of coarse granulated sugar or salt and oil will make a great DIY scrub, the commonly found pumice stone is also a great option to keep on top of the skin build up. You need to ensure that the stone itself is clean and dry after every use or you risk fungal growth. If your feet are in need of a more thorough cleanse, chemical peels that make use of natural fruit acids are an excellent substitute to scrubbing.
We all love a nice long hot soak in a bath – they are relaxing and soothing –and when you do them right you come out feeling brand new. Do your feet not deserve the same treatment. A warm foot bath, with added essential oils is an excellent way to maintain your feet and should definitely be incorporated into any pedicure routine, either as a pre‑exfoliation soften or as a post‑ exfoliation cleanse.
It’s all well and good removing all the unwanted hard and dry skin with a good scrub or foot mask and soak combo, but it will all be for nothing if you don’t add and reseal moisture into your feet, as the next thing you know you’ll find yourself right back where you started, with dry and undernourished feet. If you really want to flash your best pair of toe-less sandals, or finally rock that pair of pretty red heels you’ve been too afraid to wear, then please, please, please, choose a good moisturiser and treat your feet. Natural is of course the way forward, so why not look for creams or lotions that contain organic ingredients like aloe, keratin or nourishing fruit extracts. Some chemical exfoliants actually incorporate these elements into themselves saving you time and effort, and are well worth investigating.
#4 Rinse and Repeat
It’s easy to let certain aspects of your daily routine slip, for example, skipping the gym or putting off making a phone call. Whilst missing your “exfoliate, soak and moisturise” foot care session won’t turn your toes to gnarled talons, it will be that much harder to rejuvenate your feet once you finally do. In the meantime your once baby soft skin can suffer. You and your feet will feel and look better for longer, and you can walk barefoot with pride.
